How to Make Nature Walk Bracelets for Kids

Have you ever taken a nature walk or hike with your children and every few minutes they are finding a cool treasure that they stuff in their pockets or ask you to hold for them? Here is a really simple idea that will let them collect their treasures in a unique way on your next walk.

Things You'll Need:

• Cardboard roll from masking tape or duct tape
• Large paper clips
• Plant and flower guide book (optional)

1. Save the cardboard when you come to the end of a roll of masking tape or duct tape to make these neat and handy bracelets for kids to use when walking or hiking.

2. Purchase a box of large paper clips at any local store. Slip about eight to 10 paperclips over the edge of each cardboard ring.

3. Give them to your children to wear the next time that you take a nature walk or hike. Tell them that as they find pretty treasures that they would like to keep to simply slip them under the paper clip on their bracelet, instead of trying to carry them or shove them in their pockets or yours. This works great for flowers and leaves.

4. Let the kids take turns showing each other their findings on their bracelet at the end of the hike. You can even let them look up the names of some of the flowers or leaves in a guide book. This is a great way to teach kids about nature and get them involved and excited about it.

Tips & Warnings

• Be careful to supervise children when they are picking up nature... you don't want them getting into poison ivy. Also be aware of thorns or other hazards on different plants.
