Step 1
Take your height into consideration.
If you're already tall, a six inch pair of stilettos may be overkill. If you're petite, a high heeled stiletto can make you look awkward and off balance. Opt for a two to three inch heel for daytime wear. They will elongate your body and still feel comfortable. Save the stilettos for evening. -
Step 2
Choose neutral colors.
When choosing high heels, invest in some neutral shades such as blacks, browns, and taupes. These colors are more versatile and can go anywhere from the office to evening functions. Buy a pair of colored pumps for special occasions. -
Step 3
Get the right fit.
The correct fit is critical if you want to be comfortable in high heels. Always try on shoes at the shoe store at the end of the day when your foot is largest due to water retention. Spend some time walking around the store before making your purchase. Purchasing high heels online is best avoided since you can't try them on. -
Step 4
Give yourself a high heel break.
If you wear heels to work, take along a pair of flat, comfortable shoes to wear if you'll be walking to lunch. High heels can add a great deal of stress to the foot and leg. Also consider adding gel soles to your shoes for added support and comfort.
