Rushing and sacking the quarterback are crucial aspects for defensive success in football. One maneuver that can help a player rush the quarterback is the swim move. While there are other moves, the swim move is a favorite of most players. To do a swim move in football successfully a player just needs a few tips to be an expert and sack the quarterback in no time.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get off the snap of the football quickly. For a swim move to work correctly, you need to be quicker than the offensive lineman is at the snap of the football. Therefore, you need to react quickly and to get the edge on the opposing player who is trying to block you.

  2. Step 2

Make a jab step to get the offensive lineman off balance. A jab step is when you step slightly in one direction, with the intention of moving quickly in the other direction. This gets the offensive player off balance because generally they will react to your first step.

  3. Step 3

Take a step in the other direction. After making the jab step, you want to move the same foot across the front of the offensive to his other side. Make sure this step is a short and balanced one.

  4. Step 4

Bring the inside arm up at the same time as the movement in Step 3. This is where the name swim move comes from. This arm movement is similar to the same movement a person uses when they are swimming.

  5. Step 5

Place the swim move arm on the back of the blocker and swim through the blocker. At the same time, you're pulling yourself through line of scrimmage with the swim move you want to run through the offensive linemen to the quarterback.
