Harlequin clowns are clowns who wear simple makeup and checked clothes. The harlequin was first seen as one of the most famous roles in Commedia dell'Arte. Today harlequin clowns are seen everywhere. Defining the eyes of a harlequin clown can be done in a few minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Black makeup
  • Thin brushes
  • Water
  • Light powder
  1. Step 1

Paint the face of the clown per the clown's instructions. Some harlequin clowns go simple with white faces, red lips and black diamond shapes over the eyes. The design is up to them. Diamond shapes are the most common for harlequin clowns.

  2. Step 2

Dip the paint brush in black paint and make a thin outline around any design over the eyes. Remember to outline anything on the eyelid.

  3. Step 3

Go over the outline until you reach the desired thickness. Do this as many times as needed for the desired look.

  4. Step 4

Underline the eye with black paint if there is no design over the eye. This brings attention to the eye.

  5. Step 5

Make one curved line on the outside of the eye curling up and one curved line at the bottom going down on each eye. This looks similar to crows feet.

  6. Step 6

Wash your brushes in water and blot them on a rag or paper towel to remove any black paint. Brushes that are not washed out become dry and stiff with paint.

  7. Step 7

Cover the face with a thin layer of powder to dry the makeup and keep it from smearing.
