How to Install an Electrical Outlet Plate Cover in Childproofing
You think you're doing something smart when you install plastic outlet covers while childproofing. But you might forget to replace the cover once you're done using an electrical appliance. This poses a problem since your child can find the outlet and stick his fingers in the socket. Instead, install an electrical outlet plate cover and forget about it without fearing any danger to your child.

1
Purchase electrical outlet plate covers. They should come with either one hole in the middle or two at the ends for screws. There are plenty of colors to choose from to match any room.
-
2
Examine the outlet where you're placing the new plate covers. Drill new holes into the wall if necessary.

3
Slide the cover back to expose the socket. Once you remove the electrical plug, the cover slides back over to prevent little fingers from getting an electric shock. Other covers have you pinch the sidewalls, releasing a tab and swinging the cover open.

Look for plate covers that prevent your kids from pulling out cords that are always plugged in the outlet. Cords are threaded through the bottom opening. Although the best practice is to hide the cords by plugging them into outlets placed behind furniture or out of your child's grasp.

Tips & Warnings
Electrical outlet covers that have face plates you screw into the wall are a much better option than plastic covers when childproofing. Not only do they automatically cover the electrical part, but your infant can't put anything in his mouth, like he might do with plastic covers.
Childproofing is vital when dealing with electricity. Children are very curious about electrical outlets and covers.
