How to Download FLV Videos With YouTube Video Converter

YouTube offers one of the largest online video collections, everything from gag videos to instructional videos. If you need to download the videos to watch them offline, however, you're out of luck. YouTube Video Converter solves that problem by allowing you to capture FLV files to disk.

Instructions

      Download and register the program. Unlike some trial software, YouTube Video Converter cripples some of its features.

      Enter your download settings. Choose "Settings" from the Tool menu. Select the temporary file location, number simultaneous downloads, and what to do with finished downloads.

      Navigate to the video you want to download on YouTube. Drag the video thumbnail onto Video Converter's drop zone icon.

      Choose your file location by clicking on the "New" button. Browse your hard drive to find the folder where you want to save your files. You should also choose the output format. Change the name of the new file by deselecting "Use default file name" and entering the new file name in the "Rename" dialog.

      Click "Play" to play back your file. If you save in a format other than FLV you will need a different player.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the video preview won't drag and drop, copy the URL link in the right part of the playback window. When you click the "New" button, the URL will already appear in the "Download URL" field.

  • YouTube Video Converter saves an FLV version of every file you download in its temporary files folder regardless of the format you choose. The folder is listed in the "Settings" dialog. Look in that folder to recover FLVs or to delete files.

  • YouTube Video Converter can only play files saved in FLV format. If you save your files in a different format you will need open them in a player compatible with that format.
