The purpose of moisturizers is to trap moisture in the skin and keep it from evaporating. Hydrated skin looks supple and youthful. Using the wrong moisturizer or applying it in the wrong areas could produce negative effects. Keep the following dos and don'ts in mind to moisturize properly before applying makeup.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Use a mild cleanser to wash your face. Gently exfoliate your face using circular motions.
Step2
Apply toner and wait a few minutes for your face to dry.
Step3
Wash your hands before applying moisturizer to your face. Start in the center and apply the moisturizer in upward and outward motions. Use eye cream or eye gel in the eye area (this area is more sensitive and requires different care than the rest of the face) instead of moisturizer.
Step4
Wait approximately three minutes to let the moisturizer soak into your skin. After that, you can apply the foundation.
Step5
Apply moisturizer to your neck area. Use upward strokes to avoid pulling the skin down.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sensitive skin requires a product formulated specifically for sensitive skin. These products are normally fragrance-free and don't contain allergens.
  • Dry skin requires an oil-based, hypo-allergenic moisturizer.
  • Avoid moisturizing an inch away from your eyes to avoid irritation.
