How to Make a Camping Stool on the Spot

You don't really need an official camp stool to have a place to sit while you are camping. Just pull together what you have for an impromptu version when you find yourself in need of a camp stool substitute.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Three sticks
  • Rope
  • Cushion
Step1
Look around at your camping supplies as you unload or after setting up. Determine if you have any items that can support your weight. If you don't have anything available, continue on to Step 2.
Step2
Find three strong sticks to use for legs. They must be straight, about 3 feet long and around 1 inch in diameter. Tie them together with rope about 1/3 of the way down.
Step3
Pull the bottom sections away from one another. This gives it a pyramid shape. Use the pyramid-like section to make the base. The longer section holds up the weight of the camping stool while the shorter section is where you put the seat.
Step4
Prepare a seat for the stool by placing a sturdy cushion on the top of the shorter section of the three stick legs.
Step5
Select a level spot to set your camping stool and you are in business.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use any sturdy box-like item to make a camp stool in a pinch. For example, a large ice chest or bucket makes a great place to sit.
