How to Set Up Multiple Libraries in Itunes on a PC

Itunes libraries offer you the chance to sort your music by genre, mood, season or era. Libraries make accessing and searching for your music much easier. You can file holiday music in a separate library, so that it is not included on your regular rotation of songs.

Instructions

1. Hold down the shift key while opening iTunes. This will open a dialog box.

2. Click "Create New Library."

3. Name the new library when prompted on the screen.

4. Begin putting music in your library. You can share the music in your current library with your new library, if you want to leave the music in one library and share it with another you should click "Copy Files to Itunes Music Folder." This will prevent you from erasing the song from the original library.

5. Look for shared libraries by clicking "Edit," then "Preferences." Then click "Sharing" and check "Look for Shared Libraries."

6. Create playlists in your library by choosing "File" then "New Playlist." Follow the screens as prompted to name the playlist. Begin dragging music into the playlist. You can create a playlist by clicking on the "+" in the bottom left corner on your screen.

Tips & Warnings

• If you are setting up multiple users, you should set up different accounts on Itunes. Then you can share music libraries with each other. This will allow your iPods to sync separately, and keep your music libraries separate from each other.
• You can select libraries that you want to be included in your regular rotation of music.
• Do not consolidate your libraries. This step cannot be reversed.
