Gradients can be used in Adobe Photoshop CS3 to create many different looks within a document. Photoshop comes with several gradient presets that you can modify, delete or add to, and you can restore the default gradients that come with the system.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start Adobe Photoshop CS3 and open an existing document from your files or start a blank canvas.

  2. Step 2

Choose the "Gradient" tool from the Photoshop toolbox. This tool is paired with the "Paint Bucket" tool so you may need to hold down the "Paint Bucket" button and select the "Gradient" tool from the pop-up list. Notice that the properties for the "Gradient" tool are displayed at the top of the Photoshop screen, just below the menu bar.

  3. Step 3

Click the arrow beside the drop-down list that shows you the preset gradients. Click on the small arrow on the top right of that drop-down list with the preset gradients to display a drop-down list.

  4. Step 4

Select "Reset Gradients" from the drop-down list that appears in the preset gradients box. You will receive a dialog box asking you to confirm that you want to replace the current gradients with the default gradients.

  5. Step 5

Press the "OK" button to confirm that you want to restore the default gradients and close the dialog box. Notice that the gradients that appear in the drop-down box of the preset gradients will now be restored back to system default.
