1
Wash your hair less frequently, like twice a week. Washing every day or every 2 days causes the hair to be greasier. Use a shampoo and conditioner formulated for oily hair, like Head and Shoulders for Oily Hair or Follicleanse. Also, try a dry shampoo like Schwarzkopf Batiste Dry Shampoo, which does not require washing and allows you to wait longer before doing a traditional wash.

2
Be gentle when washing the hair because harsh scrubbing leads to greasy hair due to increased sebum (oil) production. Apply conditioner to the ends or tips and less or not at all on the roots during the washing process.

3
Brush the hair less. Increased brushing causes you to distribute the oils throughout the head and encourages the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Try not to handle your hair too much after initial styling because additional touching and brushing stimulates oil production and spreading.

Try unconventional methods to prevent having oily or greasy hair. Comb or brush talcum powder into your hair to try to decrease the number of times you wash your hair. The powder absorbs some of the excess oils in the hair. Reduce the amount of fat in your diet. Apply Jojoba oil to your scalp to counter the sebaceous oil production.
