Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Get ready to move. You've been living in this place of guilt and shame for a long time. The things that you've done may or may not have been on purpose. You hurt someone, maybe yourself, and you feel bad. You've got to want to move from your current address of guilt and shame and into the land of the free. You're living in a lousy neighborhood - Decide to make a change. You have to decide you're tired of living where you're living and only you can make the decision.
Step2
Forgive yourself. It doesn't matter why you did (or didn't do) something. You are not the same person today as you were yesterday. If you knew then, what you know now, chances are you would have done things differently. The fact that you are reading this article TODAY tells us that you are not the same person. God knows all you've done and he loves you unconditionally. If you ask Jesus to forgive you, not only does he forgive, he forgets about it. If God, the sovereign ruler and maker of every living thing (in the entire universe), loves you enough to forgive you then YOU CAN TOO. If you're still having a hard time. Pray and he'll give you the strength you need. He wants you free more than you do.
Step3
Pray for the person(s) you've hurt especially if it's you. If you did something in your past, like abortion or cheating or hurtful words - Pray for God to heal you and also to bless any persons involved. Pray for Jesus to use these things of the past for something good. He can use our biggest mistakes for his glory. What does that mean? Example: If you are feeling guilty for having slept around before marriage - Pray for God to allow you to use it for good. What, you ask, could possibly be good about that? Well - you could talk to a young person about the importance of waiting for the right one. The person just might listen. God is so nice he promises to do this for us. He works all things, even our bad things, together for good to those who love him. Amazing!
Step4
Believe you're forgiven. Know that you're forgiven and that life is brand new. The bible says that if you confess your sin before God, he is faithful and just to forgive you. It also says that He loves you with an everlasting love and knows the very number of hairs on your head. His thoughts of you outnumber the grains of sand and they're all good. Amazing! But, don't take my word for it - it's all written in His book!
Step5
Thank your heavenly father. God thinks you're the bomb! In fact, he CAN'T stop thinking about you! You're his beloved child and is always with you. If you make a mistake again, which we all do, just confess it and mean it. Then believe God forgives you and simply rest in his love. It's like a nice, comfy pillow or a refreshing glass of water on a hot day. It's great!
