Photo scavenger hunts leave lasting memories!

A photo scavenger hunt is a unique way to promote friendship and just have fun! If you're looking for a fun activity for your youth group, college group, church group, sorority/fraternity, or any group, consider this at your next social event. It will be a game they'll never forget!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A large group of people (youth group, sorority, etc.)
  • Digital or disposable cameras, One for Each group
  • Cars for each group to drive/ride in
  • Computer/Printer
  • Fun prizes
  1. Step 1

Decide on when you are going to have the scavenger hunt. It's a great event for a youth group party, sorority pledge week activity, college orientation, etc. Ideally there should be at least 6 people.

  2. Step 2

Make a list of scenarios that the group must take a picture of themselves in front of. Here are some ideas:

    1. On a Swing Set
    2. Doing the bunny hop in front of a certain store
    3. Sitting on the courthouse steps
    4. With someone wearing a uniform
    5. In front of a Volkswagen Beetle (or PT cruiser, etc.)
    6. In the deodorant section at Wal-Mart
    7. Crammed into a bathtub
    8. In front of a statue
    9. In front of any local landmark
    10. With a duck
    11. With everyone wearing hats
    12. With everyone making a peace sign
    13. On an escalator
    14. Spelling out a word - such as "hi"
    15. In front of a brown house
    16. In front of a house over 40 years old
    17. In front of a certain type of tree, such as pecan
    18. With a puppy
    19. With a cow
    20. In front of a traffic sign

  3. Step 3

If the group is a youth group, or people younger than 18, recruit chaperones - enough for one per group.

  4. Step 4

Try to get a head count of how many people there will be, if possible. The players will be divided into teams of 4 or 3.

  5. Step 5

Create the rules. They might be that whoever gets the most pictures of these in a 2 hour time span wins. Print & xerox the rules, along with the list of scenarios the players need to create on the scavenger hunt.

  6. Step 6

Purchase disposable cameras, enough for each group.

  7. Step 7

When the party comes, hand out the scavenger hunt sheets, explain the rules and tell them to check off the scenarios that they accomplish, and enjoy!

  8. Step 8

Have everyone meet back. Take the cameras to a one hour developing lab to develop photos. Give the winners a fun prize!

  9. Step 9

Put the photos in a fun scrapbook, or give to players to enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Instead of disposable cameras, you could use digital - just ensure that you have enough players to bring one. They could then show you the photos immediately on their camera.
  • Remind players that safety comes first. The prize is not worth a car accident.

on 12/24/2008 These are some great ideas. Definitely use digital cameras though. They are common enough these days and the results are immediately available. For ready-made plans, check out www.chase-games.com :)
