1
Read the Xbox Live Code of Conduct and Terms of Use. The Code of Conduct describes the behavior that can get you banned from the site.
-
2
Refrain from modding your game console. Modding means altering your unit to perform tasks not intended by the designer.

3
Follow the golden rule. If you get upset with someone, mute them. Don't engage in inappropriate behavior and say anything online that you wouldn't say in front of small children. Degrading, racist, sexist and foul conversation can earn a ban.
-
4
Leave a game if you find that you're playing with people who have modified their machines or are cheating. Even if you're not the one cheating, Microsoft can ban you from Xbox Live for benefiting from someone else's cheating.

Tips & Warnings
Microsoft doesn't have to notify you before banning. They also don't have to refund your subscription or the remaining value of your subscription. Microsoft can even tell your ISP of any illegal activities, which could cause your ISP to drop you as a client or to take legal action.
If you purchase a previously owned Xbox, clean the hard drive and erase old files. You may have mods that you aren't aware of, and these can still be cause for banning.
Temporary bans until the year 9999 may be an error in the family settings. Disable the family settings on your account to correct the problem.
If you're placed under a temporary or permanent ban by Microsoft, don't complain in a blog or post. Microsoft can take legal action against you.
