Most people think curly hair is a blessing, but curly hair requires special care and styling just like other types. Knowing the right drying techniques and practicing them are key to getting the look you want. It also helps to have a good haircut.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Brush your hair thoroughly before you wash it. Wash and condition your hair
with a shampoo and conditioner designed for curly hair.

  2. Step 2

Comb your hair with your fingers after you rinse out the conditioner. Remove excess moisture from your hair by pressing a towel against your head.

  3. Step 3

Distribute a protective blow drying lotion or hair mousse designed for curly hair to your hair, avoiding the roots. Place it only on the outer parts of your hair, using your fingers to scrunch and form curls.

  4. Step 4

Place an air diffuser on the end of your blow dryer. Use a high heat setting with a low fan to dry your hair starting underneath. You may want to bend over to easily reach underneath your hair.

  5. Step 5

Dry the upper layers of your hair, using your fingers to form curls or waves. Stop drying your hair while it still has some moisture in it or it will overdry, lose body or frizz.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't rub your head with the towel because you can damage your hair and make the curls frizzy.
  • Avoid touching your hair a lot after it's dry or it can become frizzy. Use your fingers or a pick to lift the curls into place if they become mussed.
