It's really easy to lose or forget your WEP key if you get disconnected from your Internet or your router gets reset. Most people don't write them down, and if you're one of those people, these steps are for you. It's pretty easy to find your WEP key and create another one that's easy to remember.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Connect your computer to one of the ports at the back of your router with a DSL cable.

  2. Step 2

Open a web browser and type "http://192.168.1.1/" in the address bar. This will bring up your administration page for your router.

  3. Step 3

Log in by leaving the username blank and use "Admin" for the password. These are the username and password you use if you haven't already set something up previously.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Wireless" tab at the top of the screen, and then on the "Wireless Security" tab.

  5. Step 5

Look for the WEP key listed. There might be a few of them, usually three. Use the first one listed. It will be a combination of numbers and letters.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can always make your own WEP code by typing a familiar password in the box at the bottom of the screen. The software will automatically turn the password into a WEP key, but all you have to remember is your familiar password.
  • The web address "http://192.168.1.1/" is used for Linksys routers. Refer to your router's documentation for the appropriate address.
