If you like warm homemade pretzels but you want a sweeter flavor, you'll like the taste of a cinnamon pretzel. Cinnamon pretzels combine the flavor of bread with the sweetness of a doughnut.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Metal bowl and pan
  • 1 package or 2 ¼ tsp yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tbsps. brown sugar
  • 2 tbsps. brown sugar
  • 4 cups all purpose or bread flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • Sugar and cinnamon
  1. Step 1

Combine one package or 2 ¼ tsp of yeast with 1 ½ cups of warm water. Add 2 tbsps. of brown sugar to the warm water. Stir until all the sugar and yeast are mixed. Let the yeast dissolve and stand until it becomes bubbly.

  2. Step 2

Add 4 cups of all purpose or bread flour to the mix a little at a time. Add 1 tsp. of salt. Make sure the ingredients are well mixed.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle flour on your counter top. You want a large enough area to roll out long pieces of dough. Pour your dough mixture onto the counter. Knead your dough for about 10 minutes. You want the mixture to have an elastic texture. Add a sprinkle of flour if the dough sticks to the counter.

  4. Step 4

Oil a metal bowl and place the kneaded dough inside. Cover with a tea towel and let it rise for 1 hour.

  5. Step 5

Add 2 tbsps. of baking soda to 2 cups of warm water in a metal pan. You will dip the dough in here when making the pretzels.

  6. Step 6

Tear the dough into five large pieces. Tear each piece into two pieces so you end up with about 10 pieces of dough. Coat the tabletop with flour. Roll each individual piece into coils on the tabletop. You can roll them thin if you like smaller pretzels or roll them thick if you like larger pretzels.

  7. Step 7

Shape each rolled piece into a heart shape but then twist the ends into the middle so they overlap forming a pretzel. Dip each pretzel into the water mixture and place them on a sprayed baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Cook at 450 degrees F for about 5 to 10 minutes or until brown.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use any basic pretzel recipe, but substitute the sea salt with cinnamon and sugar.
  • Serve warm.
