How to Make Bridal Flip Flops

It's not all about the dress on your special day. Bridal shoes are part of the ensemble, too, and no shoes are as comfortable as flip flops. Brides today aren't hesitant to reach for that comfy and reliable summer essential. But, they want their bridal flip flops to be as special as their dress.

• Flip flops
• Glue gun and glue sticks
• Embellishments, such as seed pearls, crystals, ribbons, satin flowers and seashells

1. Buy a pair of white or ivory flip flops. They can be truly cheap, even from the dollar store. If you need or want a little height, you can now find wedge or high heel flips.

2. Plan your shoe decor before beginning. Sketch it out or write down your ideas. If you're not crafty, you could just cover the flip flops straps in bridal seed pearls or crystals.

3. Load up your glue gun. It's easy to use, but if you're unfamiliar with a glue gun, you can also use any type of strong glue.

4. Practice with a cheap pair of flip flops if you're planning on wearing more expensive ones. At as little as a dollar, you can afford to have a few trial runs in order to get it right.

5. Experiment liberally on your practice pair. You may find the addition of a few sea shells or satin flowers will make all the difference. Or, if you're not so traditional, try adding ribbon in the color of your bridesmaids' dresses.

6. Let the glue dry completely before trying on your new bridal flip flops.

• Plan flip flops for all your attendants! Host a party where each attendant makes her own. Think what a cute wedding picture you can have where you and your bridesmaids are all holding up your skirts to show off your feet.

• Don't forget a special pedicure. Your toes will be on display in your lovely bridal flip flops.

• If you want to wear bridal flip flops, but don't want to make them yourself, many bridal shops now carry them as a standard item.
