Google Analytics allows webmasters to track the performance of websites and what visitors do while on their website. Google Analytics can be customized to track any number of events. All you have to do is modify the code to match your website's needs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Go to the Google Analytics website to create a new profile for your website.
Step2
Open the "Analytics Settings" page and select "Add a Profile."
Step3
Enter the web address of the website you want Google Analytics to track. Select "http://" or "https://" from the drop-down menu.
Step4
Press "Finish" and the tracking page should open. There you will find your tracking code.
Step5
Cut and paste the Google Analytics tracking code before the body tag of the code of all the web pages you wish to track. Google Analytics will start tracking your pages.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you add the tracking code, data should be available for analysis within 24 hours and will be reported every 24 hours.
  • Google Analytics can also track transactions, Flash or other advanced features if you modify the code to fit your website.
  • Google Analytics is constantly updating and changing to keep up with the variety of websites available. Make sure you update your code when you update your site.
  • Google Analytics is free, but it's limited to 5 million page views per month.
