How to Make Extra Income!thumbnail
Make extra income through multiple sources.

Many find that one source of income is just not enough. Through a few basic ideas, anyone can earn extra money with or without getting a second job. Make a goal for your extra income in order to motivate yourself to work hard. Be it a goal to buy a new item or to pay down debt, write your goal in an obvious place to remind yourself that the hard work will pay off in the end.

Conduct a yard sale one weekend at your home. Go through your house and collect any items that you have not used in the past six months. Take those items, price them and sell them at the yard sale. If this is not an option, consider selling those items on eBay or Craigslist.

Offer to do basic chores for your neighbors for a set hourly rate. Consider your skill set. If you enjoy yard work, offer to mow lawns, tend gardens or plant flowers for neighbors. If you are great at cleaning, offer maid services to neighbors. Create a flyer with a list of your abilities, your hourly rate and a phone number to call for an appointment.

Offer to pick up extra shifts at your office, or work overtime to earn extra money. Ask your boss for additional work to help further your career, or simply to give you extra hours. This will not work, however, if you are paid a flat salary and not an hourly wage.

Take on a second job. Look for a job whose hours are before or after your current work hours. For example, many school bus drivers and newspaper delivery workers work in the early morning hours. Apply for these jobs if you are an early riser. If you are not an early riser, consider taking a second job as a waiter or waitress to earn tips during the dinner shift at a restaurant or bar.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Keep receipts of your income for tax purposes and to keep track of your earnings toward your goal.

    • Be sure to have insurance if you perform chores for neighbors in their homes. Talk to your insurance agent to make sure that you are protected from lawsuits, personal injury or other negative situations in the event that the unpredicted happens.
