A common misconception is that diamonds are unbreakable. It's true diamonds are strong enough to cut glass, however that doesn't mean they are indestructible. After speaking with a pawn shop representative he has revealed to me some steps to destroy a diamond.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Diamonds
  • Hankerchief or Bandana
  • Hammer
  • A Burner that reach extremely high temeratures.
  1. Step 1

What exactly you mean by destroy a diamond may determine which steps you need to use. So step one is determine if you just want to shatter the diamond or if you want to melt it down to it's original state.

  2. Step 2

If you want to just smash the diamond into to small pieces this is simple. First place the diamond or diamonds inside a handkerchief with no holes in it.

  3. Step 3

Then take a good hammer and smash the diamond until the desired size is reached. It really is that easy.

  4. Step 4

If you want to melt down the diamond this may prove to be slightly more challenging. Since a diamond has very closely packed molecules it is very dense. The diamond requires a temperature of 3,820 degrees Kelvin to melt. If you have access to anything that will produce those kind of temperatures you can complete this step, otherwise I'm afraid you are out of luck.
