Maybe you’ve just moved to a new town and don’t know anyone yet, or maybe all of your friends have other plans for the night. Either way, you’ve found yourself in a predicament. You want to go out, but you have no one to go with. The following steps will show you how you can still have a great time going out alone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Be confident. There’s no need to feel shy about hitting the town by yourself. If you’re confident and happy, people will be drawn to you, and you may end up making some new friends.

  2. Step 2

Talk to your waiter or waitress if you go out to dinner, or chat it up with your bartender if you’re getting a drink. Get to know the staff at your favorite restaurants, cafés and bars so that you begin to make friends at your favorite places and don’t always feel the need to have someone with you when you go out.

  3. Step 3

Bring a book or magazine to read if you’re going to sit at a café and have a drink. This way you’ll have something to do and won’t feel as awkward sitting alone.

  4. Step 4

Take yourself on fun outings. Go to the movies, get a coffee at a nearby café, peruse the local bookstore, go shopping, grab dinner or a drink, take a walk through the park, go to the zoo or check out a local art gallery.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don’t get defensive if someone asks you why you’re alone. Instead, be polite and welcoming and maybe you’ll make a new friend.
