How to Do the Konami Code

The Konami code is a popular cheat code that can be used in a number of Konami's popular games. Originally used in Gradius, the cheat was made popular in Nintendo's Contra but is now relevant to many of your favorite Konami games.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

1. Find games that you can use the Konami code in such as Contra and Contra variations such as Operation C, Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra. Also, look to the popular Gradius and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle series, both of which allow use of the Konami code for most of the series' variants.
2. Attempt to use the code in the start screen (the title screen) of each game by pressing the game controller's up button, then the down button, then once to the left and once to the right. Then, repeat the left and right sequence and finally press your B button and then the A button.
3. Apply the code in other segments of the game, such as after you press the pause button. After you use the code, unpause the game and see what effect the Konami code has on your game play.
4. Use the code in new situations and scenarios to see what kind of effect it has if used in various stages of gameplay. Then, try using variations of the cheat code by doing it twice in a row or by switching up the B and A button sequences to find new effects.
5. Keep a log of the effects of the Konami code so you can see what the code does in various game series and their variants. Compare your notes with friends and other gamers who use the code to find new uses for the cheat.
