LED, or light emitting diode, is the name of the tiny light bulbs that are commonly used in electronic devices. The lights shine bright enough to be a source of light or luminescence, but require less energy to initiate and maintain. These lights are often used in low voltage applications.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Go to your local electronic component store. There are 3 types: lighting, miniature and alphanumeric. Be sure to select the correct type for your application. Lighting LED are used for bulbs, miniature bulbs are installed in other devices and alphanumeric bulbs are used for multiple devises, large and small.
Step2
Select the correct currency for your application. The most commonly used currents are 2 mA, 10mA and 20 mA. If you use lower currents, remember the efficiency is reduced. The standard low current is 2 microAmp at a 4 mW consumption rating.
Step3
Locate the appropriate current limiting resister to match the expectant low voltage currency. Include a process for routing any excess currency, like a current control ballast into your electronic circuitry.
Step4
Wire your low voltage LED to your circuit. Attach the correct current limiting resister to the inductor. When wiring electronic components together, a soldering iron is used to provide the best connectivity.

Tips & Warnings

  • Low voltage lights are a great way to save electricity and reduce your impact on the overall environment. When wiring low voltage LEDs, it is important to include the corresponding capacity resistor to ensure that the circuit can handle the voltage flow.
