Many believe only a maximum of 120 stars can be collected in Super Mario Galaxy (though only 60 are needed to finish the game). But there is one final, most secret and hidden 121st star to find. All you have to do to get it is complete the game at least twice with the first 120 stars using two different players. Easy, right?

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Get all 120 stars in main game. This includes the first 60 power stars as well as all the hidden stars found throughout the worlds.
Step2
Return to the Comet Observatory where Rosalina is. Ask Rosalina to have you fight Bowser one final time.
Step3
Defeat Bowser with all 120 stars, and then wait for all the end credits to roll. A message appears telling you that you can now play the game as Luigi.
Step4
Play and complete the entire game as Luigi with 120 stars, defeating Bowser one more time. This will unlock the Grand Finale Galaxy.
Step5
Collect all 100 purple coins in the Grand Finale Galaxy. This will complete the stage and get you the final 121st star.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you have the 121st star with both Mario and Luigi, you get one more bonus. Access your Save file, and you can now see a "death count"--how many times you died playing the game as both Mario and Luigi.
