Things You'll Need:
- Fabric
- Needle and thread
- Poly-Fil stuffing
- An iron
- Decorative items, such as pieces of fabric, buttons, ribbons, etc. (optional)
-
Step 1
First you must decide how big you want your pillow to be depending on how you are going to use it. Now cut two pieces of fabric of the same shape and size to be the front and back of the pillow.
-
Step 2
Set the fabric so that the outside of the pillow, the part with the pattern is on the inside. You need to sew your pillow from the outside, so that when you are finished and turn it back right side out, you will not see the thread.
-
Step 3
Sew around the pillow making your stitches close together to keep the pillow tight. Continue this until you reach one last side that has to be sewn, and then stop.
-
Step 4
Now you need to turn the pillow inside out again, so that the pattern is on the outside. Stuff your pillow with Poly-Fil, making it nice and fluffy. If you do not add enough Poly-Fil, the pillow will not be usable. Do not add too much either, or you run the risk of busting the seams of the pillow.
-
Step 5
Once you have finished stuffing your pillow, you will need to sew up the last side. To do this, tuck in about 1/2 inch of each side of the fabric and iron it down. Ironing will help make a crease, which will help you be able to sew better.
-
Step 6
Use a color of thread that matches the pattern of your pillow. Choose the most dominant color on the fabric. Sew the pillow, again using very close stitches. Knot off the thread at the end and cut it off at that point.
-
Step 7
Now you can proceed to add decorative items to your pillow, if you desire. When sewing down buttons and ribbons, use colors that match the items, so that they will blend in well. Your pillow is done and ready to be used for a decoration or nightly use for sleep.

on 3/26/2009 Stuffing with poly fil is nice, but I'm lazy. I'll go with a pillow form nearest the size I want. :) Good article.
