How to Get Rid of Nosey People

Nosey people can often be an unwelcome part of your day. It can be difficult to get them to mind their own business while saying so in a nice way. In addition, nosey people sometimes have a hard time understanding that you really mean what you say. Follow these steps to get rid of nosey people.

1. Realize that everybody is different. Different people have different reasons for being nosey. Some are trying to get information, and some don't even realize that the way they are acting is rude and annoying. Friends, coworkers and family alike may all be nosey at times, so take into consideration your relationship with them and the situation when deciding what to do or say.

2. Smile and be respectful the first few times you have to say something. Be honest about the way you feel, though. If you aren't comfortable talking about a particular subject, say so, then change the subject or use the opportunity to extract yourself from the conversation.

3. Be firm if the nosey person doesn't seem to realize you are serious. Still try to be respectful, but change your facial expression to indicate that you don't like them asking questions or giving their input on the subject at hand. Use words like uncomfortable, personal and private to get your point across.

4. Give short answers when you do choose to answer a nosey question, without divulging any real information. The person should give up when they realize they aren't getting anywhere.

5. Start the conversation yourself when you meet a nosey person and you cannot escape the situation immediately. If you can get them talking about something else, they may forget about asking you questions about your personal business.
