How to Select Indian Wedding Favors

Indian wedding ceremonies can be lavish and exotic, with many traditions observed through the course of that special day. By selecting Indian wedding favors, you can add a little spice to the most staid of ceremonies, regardless of whether the bride and groom come from India or not.

Instructions

    • 1

Select Indian wedding favors that are practical and can be used by guests after they leave the ceremony. Indians are considered a very practical people, and by choosing such usable items as ornate gift boxes, wall hangings and small pouches of potpourri, you will delight your guests with your thoughtfulness.

    • 2

Pick wedding favors that reflect the religious beliefs of the Indian people, especially if the ceremony is being held in a church or temple. Small statues or coins with the image of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi or any other religious icons will suggest a blessing to the homes of your guests, and endear you to them. You may want to keep these items at the center of each table so that your guests can select which image is most relevant to them.

    • 3

Avoid cheap or disposable wedding favors when you select gifts for your guests. In India, a wedding is considered the most sacred and important of celebrations, and you should spare no expense when it comes to thanking your friends and loved ones for attending and celebrating a wedding. Choose wedding favors that are made from wood, copper, brass and fine ceramics in order to show respect to your guests.

    • 4

Give small scrolls detailing the traditions of an authentic Indian wedding to your guests. This will help those who are unfamiliar with the traditions of Indian weddings feel more involved and knowledgeable about each aspect of the celebration.

    • 5

Visit the official websites of Indian Wedding Card and Indian Wedding to find unique wedding favors (see Resources below). You can select from a variety of the most common Indian wedding favors, such as puja thalis (small dishes used for prayer), diyas (small colorful idols made from terracotta) and many others.

Tips & Warnings

  • Indian wedding favors made from sandalwood are especially reminiscent of that land. Consider small figurines made from sandalwood, or even sandalwood scented candles, as an ideal favor for an Indian-themed ceremony.
