How to use configure T-Mobile push email features on Windows Mobile 6

When I upgraded my phone from T-Mobile SDA to T-Mobile Shadow (WM 6). I was surprised that they take out the "My E-mail" features. A call to the T-Mobile Customer Support told me that they no longer support the application in WM 6.

My Email features is similar to push email like when you use exchange but instead of sending packet to your phone once in a while, it will send text messages to your phone where the "My E-mail" program created by T-Mobile will intercept the text message and do the appropriate action to download the email.

This is actually a really good way to conserve your phone's battery since it's using T-Mobile server resources to check your email for you every few minutes and only when it sees new email, it notifies your phone to download that email.

After doing a lot of research, I finally found a way to get the My Email features working again on any Windows Mobile 6.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Windows Mobile 6
• T-Zones / T-Mobile Web or Internet plan

1. I created a .cab file that will do all the registry settings, add shortcut of MyEmail and put the files all at the right spot (Step 5-7). Download it from my website: http://www.pxsoftware.net/download.asp?file=T-Mobile Email WM 6.cab
   
   First of all, you need to setup your email using My T-Mobile by going to http://my.t-mobile.com/. It should be under "Communication Tools - Access My Email" As of 3/21/08, the link is http://my.t-mobile.com/PartnerServices.aspx?source=setalerts&service=myemail which will take you to URL similar like: https://myemail.t-mobile.com/html?c=xx&a=x

2. From the T-Mobile MyEmail website, go to Settings - Mailboxes - Add New Mailbox and configure your pop server settings there.

3. Go to Settings - Alerts - Add Alerts then configure the alert you want for your email and be sure you have "Alert Enabled" checked in.

4. To confirm that the alert is working, send an email to your email account, and if you enabled the SMS notification to your phone, you will get the NON Silent SMS. Be patient, T-Mobile usually takes a good 5 mins sometimes to get it to you.

5. Then using your old T-Mobile Windows Mobile phone that has My Email features and copy the following files from OLD ROMs WINDOWS directory to NEW ROM Windows. I am assuming your phone is APP UNLOCKED at this point.

6. Now edit/add the following registry entries to your Windows Mobile Phone (if it's not already there).

   I encourage you to use Mobile Registry Editor (see tips) to do the registry entries.

7. After you completed above setup, now setup your device to download email settings using your account at T-Mobile. Simply run the "MyEmSMP.exe" from your Windows directoy on your device. This will allow you to download and configure your mail client.
   
   NOTE: you may manually do so as well, using the following settings
   Mail Server (POP3): myemail.t-mobile.com
   Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): myemail.t-mobile.com
   User ID: wwwxxxyyyy:1 (www = area code, xxx-yyyy your phone number, and the :1 = the number or id of your account). You can have many accounts setup this way.
   Password: your password

8. Go to My Email from your Start menu, and go to Configure My E-mail Triggers and make sure you check "Enable Automatic E-Mail Updates" for the emails you want to silently trigger.

9. RESTART your phone.

10. Your phone should now be able to silently trigger email download whenever you receive a new email in your designated email account you previously setup from T-Mobile setup.

Tips & Warnings

• You can App Unlock your phone by adding the following registry entry to your mobile phone: HKLM>Security>Policies>Policies, value = 0000101B, DWORD = 1 or you can simply download http://www.pxsoftware.net/download.asp?file=AppUnlock.cab to automatically add this registry entry for you
• To download all the files needed for T-Mobile My Email features, go to http://www.pxsoftware.net/download.asp?file=T-Mobile Email WM 6.cab
• To download Mobile Registry Editor, go to http://www.pxsoftware.net/download.asp?file=MobileRegistryEditor.zip
• Be careful when editing your registry, always make a backup
• In case you accidently "bricked" or disabled your phone where your phone cannot go to the main screen, you need perform a hard reset to have your device reset to the factory setup.
