Learn some quick tips on how to work in a professional environment with catty and gossiping girls.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • self esteem
  • self respect
  • smile
  1. Step 1

Ignore the dirty looks and comments. Just walk on by, keeping your head held up high. You are better than these girls with their snooty comments and glares. Perhaps picture them working at the same dead-end job for years to come, while you are racking in the big bucks at a cushy office in a warm climate.

  2. Step 2

Smile. You can get much further in life with kindness. When you walk by the snobs, smile and say hi. They will be so confused, they won't know how to respond. Kill them with kindness, but dont' go overboard (you will sound fake.) Be the better person. Don't stoop to their level...you are better than that!

  3. Step 3

Be wary. Don't give them much information about your personal life. Keep the conversations strictly to work and business. If you give them too much information, they will likely use it to fuel their fire.

  4. Step 4

Learn from them. I know, it sounds silly. But learn from their mistakes. Learn as much as you can about socializing at work. While the other girls waste their time putting you down, they are not advancing themselves. Learn as much as you can so you acquire necessary skills to get to a better place.

  5. Step 5

Be professional. Don't spread rumors or gossip about them. Be the bigger person and hopefully they will see they are being childish and give up. Remember, they are only talking about your back because they are insecure about themselves. Stay strong, and the wave will eventually pass. (If not, the average 20-something-year-old only holds the same job for about 2 years). Not too much longer until you find something better!

on 8/13/2009 Another good idea is if someone tries to get you caught in their net of gossiping games, do NOT retaliate with more gossip. Also, if someone tell's you "so-and-so said something negative about you", be the adult and ask the person mentioned if this is true. Chances are, if they are gossiping about you, they will be embarassed about facing you and if it's false, there will be no mis-placed resentment. Gossip thrives on not enough information and innuendos.
