How to Copy Files to a CDRW Without Being Read Only

Copying files is necessary, since you never know when a computer is going to crash. You can have a brand new one die on you due to manufacturing or an older PC can crash at any time. You need to be prepared. If you copy your files to a CDRW, you don't have to use a new one every time you backup your files.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Buy CDRWs. This is not the same as a CDR. You can use a CDR only once; it doesn't matter if you fill one tenth of it or all of it, when you are done with the session it is full. However, you can leave a CDRW open like a floppy disk, thereby making your life much easier.
Step2
Insert the CDRW into the drive and format the CD. Windows will do the rest. When prompted to format the CD, just click "Yes."
Step3
Select the files you want to copy. You should copy any files that are important to you, no matter what they are. Once the formatting is complete, you can start copying.
Step4
Copy the files. After selecting the files, right click on the CD drive and select "Paste." The CD now has your files copied to it. You can open them, edit them and save them again.
Step5
Add more files or update the files you have copied. Periodically you should update your files, whether daily, weekly, every couple of weeks or even monthly. It depends on how often you feel comfortable with updating them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Although it isn't necessary to use a new CDRW every time you back up your work, it is nice to use two. This way you always have one that is fairly recent if your computer should crash while you are performing the backup.
