Step 1
Select an online fabric store with a secure pay method. PayPal is a great way to know your transaction and personal information is secure. If the store only accepts money orders or personal checks, you may want to look elsewhere. Fabrics website offers a list of online fabric sources.
-
Step 2
Contact the online fabric store and ask for samples. If the online store doesn't want you to touch and see the fabric before you purchase, you may want to look for another source.
-
Step 3
Check the shipping costs. Many times, online stores will allow you to pick up large quantities of fabric in person. It may be less expensive to drive a little way than to have the company ship the fabric to your home or business.
-
Step 4
Scour online auctions. Many times, eBay sellers have great selections of small yardages of fabric. Although, you won't be able to see or feel the fabric before purchasing, you can read the seller's feedback to determine if other customers are happy. This is also a great source for fabric if you want scraps for quilts or pillows.

on 8/26/2009 Also check out www.belraffabrics.com they give up to five free samples, so you can see if the fabric is really what you are looking for. I have bought from them online and off -- they have a store in NYC. Think the site is one of the easiest to navigate also.
