To rent HD or Blu-Ray DVDs from Netflix at no extra charge, simply change your account preferences. When a title you want to see reaches the top of your queue, Netflix will automatically send you a DVD in HD or Blu-Ray format if it is available. Follow these steps to make the appropriate changes to your Netflix account.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the Netflix home page, and log in to your personal account using your username and password. Once you do, you'll have access to your preferences.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Your Account" link to see your preferences page. You can change your account and billing information here, as well as your disc preferences.

  3. Step 3

Click on the "Format Preferences" button located under the Account Preferences section. This is where you will choose HD or Blu-Ray disc options.

  4. Step 4

Decide which type of disc you prefer, and then confirm your choice. It is important to understand that HD discs won't work on regular DVD players, so make sure you choose the right format.

  5. Step 5

Review the list of possible titles. Netflix will then analyze your current movie queue to search for videos that are available in high definition. Choose whether you want to add the HD or Blu-Ray format as your default when renting, or if you want to have the standard format as your default. Click on "Finish" to save your preferences.
