Things You'll Need:
- CD Player
- Recordings of the songs that you want to sing (check out itunes)
- Karaoke recordings to practice with
- Lyrics for the songs
-
Step 1
Get an original recording (or recordings) of the song and download lyrics to practice with. You can find the recordings on itunes and download them if you are in a hurry. For the lyrics go online and type the song title in quotes with lyrics behind it. You should have no problem finding a set of lyrics.
-
Step 2
Practice humming the song with the recording of the original song. It is much easier to learn a song if you are focusing on one thing at a time. Focus on learning the pitches. Make sure that you are singing the correct pitches. A lot of people don't pay close attention when they sing with a recording.
-
Step 3
After you have the melody down, then learn the words using your lyrics sheet.
-
Step 4
Once feel pretty confident about your ability to sing the song by yourself try practicing with the karaoke CD. (You can find Karaoke recordings on itunes by typing the name of the song in quotes and karaoke after it.) If you don't do very well without the singer go back and practice with the original recording until you feel more confident. Then go back to singing with the Karaoke CD.
-
Step 5
Once you have sung through the song several times without mistake and could do it without the lyrics, you are ready to try your skills out in front of a live audience. Have fun!

on 9/12/2008 Thank you for the comments. I'm glad you enjoyed my article. The more you get out and sing in front of people the more comfortable you will get with doing it. It also helps to know the song that you will sing really well.
