When sending a file to be printed at a print shop the best way to go about it is to package your file so all used fonts, links and color profiles are saved and accesible by the printer. This ensures your document will print as you intend it to.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Quark XPress
  1. Step 1
    File>Collect For Output
    File>Collect For Output

When preparing to send your file you will want to package it for your printer. With your file open go to the FILE drop down menu. Select COLLECT FOR OUTPUT.

  2. Step 2

Once youve selected this option Quark will ask you where you want to save the file. Choose your location and create a new folder for the packaged files. Quark does not make its own folder, so wherever you choose for it to save it will place the collected file. If you have many files in that location, finding the collected files may be troublesome. So to avoid that create the new file.

  3. Step 3
    Collected Files
    Collected Files

Once you have created the file you will have a file for your document, a file for the report, which containts settings information used in your document creation, a folder containing any images used in the job and a folder containing fonts used in the job. If you do not have fonts or links in the job a folder will not be created for them.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is good to remember that if you have fonts that are locked on your system at use in the document that they will not package with the collected file unless you specify for it to do so. Quark will prompt you if this is an issue.
