1
Decide what style and color of chairs will go with your wedding or reception theme. Common options include white, plastic lawn-style chairs, white wooden chairs or simple folding chairs in various colors.
-
2
Rent your chairs locally so you can test them out before confirming your order. Pay special attention to stability and comfort if you have older guests or guests with physical disabilities attending the festivities. Make sure everyone will be comfortable and safe in the chairs you select.

3
Consider the event length when renting chairs. If guests will be seated for an hour or more at a time (during the ceremony, perhaps), spend a little extra to upgrade to a padded seat cushion and chair back. If you're only using the chairs for the reception, chances are guests will be dancing and mingling more than they're sitting. Save your money by renting cheaper chairs.

4
Ask the rental facility whether they offer chair coverings. A simple linen chair cover tied with a color-coordinated, organza sash adds elegance to the room and class to your rented furniture. If you're looking for a larger selection of fabric choices, visit a specialty linen-rental store. Cloth Connection and WeddingChairCovers.com specialize in creating one-of-a-kind fabric rentals for events (see Resources below).

5
Visit AllWedding.com or Decidio.com to find wedding vendors in your area (see Resources below). The sites offer directories of event rental companies, along with lists of other wedding professionals (such as photographers and hairdressers), searchable by zip code or city.

Tips & Warnings
Save yourself time and money by talking with your caterer about inclusions before you go to the effort of renting furniture. Even if furniture is not part of your package, the caterer may throw in tables and chairs at a discount if you're contracting with her to cater your reception.
Don't underestimate the importance of the chairs you rent, especially since the room or area will be filled with them. When you've put ample time into selecting everything from your colors to your cake, take the extra time to ensure that you won't have gaudy green and orange chairs ruining the elegance of your reception.

Weddings are awful. I hate being a part of them and I hate going to receptions. Now, I know I sound like a hater, but hear me out. I am a big supporter of the marriage institution. I am happy for my family and friends when they make the big move. But to force everyone to come and stand in the heat or cold for hours and hours, not recouping the money you spend on food, venue, etc. with the value of the gifts, seems like a huger waste to me.
