Preserve Your Wedding Gown

Your wedding gown was only worn once and you loved it the day your picked it out and purchased it. So, once it has been worn, what do you do with it? Should you take it to a dry cleaner where they may ruin it or should you just keep it sitting in a closet where bugs can eat it?

From Quick Guide: Bridal Dress 101
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wedding gown
  • Veil
  • Space bag
  • Vacuum cleaner
  1. Step 1

Purchase a box of space saver bags at your local home store.

  2. Step 2

After purchasing your space saver bags, open the large one with the zipper provided at the top of the plastic space bag. Gently, insert your precious wedding gown, then veil.

  3. Step 3

Once your wedding gown and veil are zipped up inside the space saver vacuum bag, take off the top of the black hole where the vacuum will be placed on. Now, turn on your vacuum and let the suctioning begin.

  4. Step 4

When it looks like all the air has been suctioned out of your space saver bag, remove the vacuum from the hole and replace with the black top to keep the air out. This is what your wedding gown and veil should look like with air suctioned out.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to keep your wedding gown looking as new as it did the day you wore it, place it in a space saver vacuum bag at home.
  • Keep your wedding gown in a dark place, if possible.
  • Every now and then, look to see if the air is still suctioned out our your bag. If the air has gotten back into the bag, apply suction to the bag as soon as possible.

on 12/16/2008 I did not know this works fine as well. I've been thinking about selling my wedding gown. But this seems like a better option to preserve it.
