Apple includes the Calendar app with its computers and mobile devices. If you use Calendar with iCloud, you can sync the Calendar app across all your Apple devices. When you add an event such as a birthday party to Calendar, you can enter the name, time and place of the party, as well as extras like websites or files associated with it.
Open Calendar on a Mac running OS X Yosemite. Double-click on the date for the birthday and select "New Event." Alternatively, click the Plus icon at the top of calendar.
Type the name and location of the birthday party into the top two fields.
Click "Add Alert, Repeat, or Travel Time." Add time information by clicking each field and selecting options from the drop-down menus.
Click "Add Invitees" and type the names of the invitees in the field.
Click "Add Notes, URL, or Attachments" to add additional information such as a to-do or shopping list, a website connected to the birthday or extra files.
Open Calendar on an Apple mobile device running iOS 8 and tap on a date.
Press and hold the time for the birthday party to access the New Event menu.
Type the birthday party's name into the Name field.
Type a location into the Location field. Calendar populates a list of possible matches that you can choose. Click "Done."
Set the time and alert information for the party.
Click "Add" to finish setting up the birthday party and add it to your Calendar.
Tips & Warnings
- You can create several separate calendars in Calendar; one can be specifically for birthdays, another for work and another for children's activities, for example.
- Calendar can also import birthday information from your Contacts list into a Birthday Calendar. Click "General" under Preferences in Calendar and choose "Show Birthdays calendar."
- To simply remind yourself of birthdays, add the person's birthday to a day in Calendar and set an Alert. You can choose Alerts that send you pop-up messages, that have sound, that send you an email or that open specific files for you. To set the Alert, double-click the event, click the date and click next to "Alert."
