Things You'll Need:
- Freshly baked cupcakes
- Frosting
- Food coloring, optional
- Butter knives
- Licorice strings
- Chocolate chips
- Candy corn or chocolate bars
- Other candy, optional
-
Step 1
Decide if you want uniform cupcakes, or a variety. For a variety, separate your white/vanilla frosting into bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each. Otherwise, use the single color/flavor of frosting of your choosing.
-
Step 2
Frost your cupcakes, leaving a smooth surface.
-
Step 3
Cut the licorice into two inch strands, apply three to each side of each cupcake, as whiskers. You may have to push the end of the licorice entirely through the frosting, into the cupcake itself, for stability.
-
Step 4
Apply chocolate chips as eyes and a nose. It is recommended to stick the point of the chocolate chips into the frosting for the eyes and to make the point stick outward for the nose, to create contrast.
-
Step 5
For Halloween, use candy corn as ears. Otherwise, cut squares of chocolate into halves and use these triangles as ears.
-
Step 6
Create a mouth, either by using a contrasting colored frosting, or by using a string of licorice or another piece of candy.
