Travel almost anywhere in the world and you'll find French fries being served. Call them chips, frites, fries, potato wedges or papas fritas. Eat them with your fingers when the atmosphere is casual, but use a fork if you're eating them in a formal setting and don't forget the condiments.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Create your own special French fry dip or use common ones. Dip fries into tomato ketchup, salad dressing, sweet barbecue sauce, picante salsa, guacamole, mustard or malt vinegar.

  2. Step 2

Serve fries with hot and spicy mayonnaise. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of ground chipotle powder with regular mayo.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle hot thick-cut fries with finely grated sharp cheddar cheese. For an extra kick, ladle on a scoop of your favorite chili to turn regular fries into chili cheese fries.

  4. Step 4

Pour your favorite brown or white gravy over fries and pass the napkins. Avoid licking your fingers in all but the most casual settings.

  5. Step 5

Mix a garlic and lemon dressing to pour over your fries. Mix a teaspoon of minced garlic, 1/4 cup of olive oil and the juice of one lemon. Add salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Step 6

Dip the end of each fry into melted milk chocolate.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you're not sure about the proper etiquette for eating French fries to avoid disgusting your table mates, follow the lead of your host or use a fork.
  • Fries just out of the cooking oil can burn your mouth.
  • Because fries are high in fat, eat them occasionally instead of as a daily staple.
