One of the easiest ways to keep in touch with your friends and relatives is through email, blogs, MySpace and of course Instant Messenger, or IM. The only problem you have is getting an email address for the people you want to contact--once you have that, the rest comes easily. Email addresses are the key to adding a contact to MSN Messenger. Read on to learn how to add a contact to MSN Messenger.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open your MSN Messenger.

  2. Step 2

Go to "Show Menu" and click on it. A drop-down menu will appear.

  3. Step 3

Select "Contacts" and add a contact. A new window will appear.

  4. Step 4

Fill in the information you know about the person--this will include their IM address and email address.

  5. Step 5

Hit the button to add the contact after you have completed all the information and your contact will appear on your list of contacts.

  6. Step 6

Search for contacts when you don't have an email or IM address. You search by their name, which you enter into the search box. If they do not turn up they probably don't have a passport enabled email address. In this case, you can have ".Net Messenger" send them instructions on how to set up an MSN messenger account. If they do show up you can add them as described in Steps 2 to 5.

  7. Step 7

Follow Steps 2 to 5 until all your contacts are on your list--you can also use this method to add new contacts in the future.
