Wiffle ball originated out of a need to perfect the curve ball in youngsters. An out-of-work father wanted to help his son and friends throw a curve ball while playing ball. With the help of a friend who provided round plastic balls, the man and his son spent an evening determining which cuts in the surface made the plastic ball curve.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wiffle ball
  • Batter
  • Catcher
  • Wiffle bat
  1. Step 1

Learn that when you throw or hit a wiffle ball, it spins non-stop. Coaches stress this when they teach young players how to throw.

  2. Step 2

Study the finger placement to throw a wiffle ball straight. The straight throw is the most difficult of them all.

  3. Step 3

Decide which pitch you want to use to get a batter to swing the bat. The straightball can be a weapon if you can throw the ball fast enough.

  4. Step 4

Try the curve ball when you throw at the batter's box. The wiffle ball's design accentuates its curve ball capabilities.

  5. Step 5

Select a pitch from a variety of pitches you have mastered. The wiffle ball is incredibly versatile. You can master many throws quickly and easily.

  6. Step 6

Train yourself on how to throw a knuckleball. A knuckleball in wiffle ball is easier to throw than in baseball.

  7. Step 7

Maintain the sharp curveball. Practice of this pitch will lead to mastery. You will become the king of the mound if you have a strong curveball.

Tips & Warnings
  • Catch the wiffle ball with two hands. The spin will cause the ball to bounce from your palms if you don't.
  • Don't practice with a baseball and then think you can pitch the same with a wiffle ball. Your pitches will miss every time.
