Lug nut studs hold a tire onto the hub surface. A broken lug nut stud is dangerous because it's not holding the tire anymore and will cause the tire to wobble and possibly come off during a turn. A broken lug nut stud can also lead to costly future repairs by causing damage to the wheel assembly and steering assembly.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to use a bolt that is smaller than your lug nut stud to hammer out the broken lug nut stud if it is broken very close to the hub.
  • It is a good idea to replace all of the lug nut studs on your vehicle when one breaks. A broken lug nut stud is sometimes a sign of wear and tear for the rest of your lug nut studs.
  • Don't attempt to drive your vehicle with a broken lug nut stud.
  • Never hit the hub or other lug nut studs when you are hammering out the broken lug nut stud. This can cause damage to those parts and they will need replacing.
