Attaching a camera lens is a task that all photographers, pro or amateur, might do at some point. Lenses allow the photographer to adjust the distance between the subject and camera and to create other effects.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Remove a lens by holding the camera body in one hand while you depress the lens release button with your other hand. Twist the lens away from the mount.
Step2
Inspect the lens mounting on the front of the camera. Make sure there are no obstructions or foreign objects blocking the opening. Blow away any dust or hair on or near the mirror.
Step3
Pick up the camera lens you want to attach and look for dust or debris. Clean the lens glass with a soft quality lens cleaning paper and lens solution. This process removes fingerprints and oils from the glass.
Step4
Bring the lens up to the camera body lens mounting area and note the orientation of any electronic contacts. Most camera lenses will have a red dot somewhere on the lens and another red dot on the camera body. Match these red dots and insert the lens.
Step5
Twist the lens into place until you hear a distinct click. The lens is now locked into place on the camera mount.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the camera lenses handy in a camera case and never leave them exposed to the elements.
  • Put the caps back on your lenses when you aren't using them. This maintains lens glass integrity.
  • Keep the front lens caps on the lens until you're ready to shoot.
