Making a music kazoo in the classroom or at home is a great way to get children together in an activity they can do themselves with a little help and supervision. Using everyday items such as toilet paper tubes, you can teach children how to make this fun craft.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cardboard toilet paper tube or paper towel tube
  • Wax paper
  • Rubber band
  • Scissors or pen
  • Markers or paint
  1. Step 1

Place the wax paper onto the table and cut a circle slightly larger than the cardboard tube, about 3 inches in diameter.

  2. Step 2

Fold the wax paper circle over one end of the cardboard tube and fasten it tightly with a thin rubber band.

  3. Step 3

Poke a hole into the cardboard tube. with scissors or a pen, right below the rubber band and wax paper. Trim the wax paper if necessary so it doesn't cover the hole.

  4. Step 4

Hum into the open end, making sounds with your new kazoo. Play around with covering the hole with your finger, adding more holes in the tube or adjusting the amount of air you blow into it.

  5. Step 5

Color the kazoo with markers or paints or leave it as is and add it to your creative music player collection. Make a band by adding other homemade instruments for a cleverly loud rainy day activity.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get kids involved by helping them make this project themselves. Allow them to be hands on and decorate the tube before making music with you or their friends.
