Things You'll Need:
- Driver
- Golf ball (optional)
- Driving range (optional)

Step 1
Grip the driver properly. The most common grip is the interlocking grip. Place the index finger of your non-dominant hand between your ring and pinkie finger of your dominant hand. Place both thumbs on the opposite side of the shaft and squeeze your hands until you are grasping the club securely.
-
Step 2
Place the ball in line with your front foot. In golf, the placement of the ball starts with the driver at your front foot and travels all the way back to mid-way between your front and back foot for the short irons. Keep the ball aligned with your front big toe.
-
Step 3
Square the club to the ball. Another important aspect in setting your driver in golf is to make sure the club is flush to the ball. If it is "open" then you'll see a gap between the ball and the club face. If it is closed then you'll actually partially obscure of some of the ball from your vision as you look down. Think of nice square angles as you place the club face behind the ball to check this setting.
-
Step 4
Move into your back swing and check the setting of this position. Success in golf is largely based on solid mechanics when it comes to swinging the club. As you move into your back swing, stop yourself halfway through. Your arms should be back away from you, slightly bent, and the club should be straight up in the air. This should form a 90-degree angle between your arms and the club.
-
Step 5
Complete your swing and drive the ball. Once you are through the half-way point of your swing, then the rest is all about striking the ball. And if the mechanics are correct to that point, then chances are you are setting yourself up for quite a nice drive.
