Friendship bracelets are a symbol of friendship that can be hand-made and personalized for each recipient. Making a friendship bracelet is easy to do and can take only a few minutes. Use these steps to braid a friendship bracelet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • String
  1. Step 1

Use three strings at a minimum or more than a dozen depending on width and complexity of the finished bracelet. Use a number of strings that is a multiple of three for evenly sized sections.

  2. Step 2

Cut the strings for the friendship bracelet. Knot all of the strings together as one to form the starting knot. Adhere the bracelet firmly to a surface to work the braid pattern.

  3. Step 3

Braid your strings into a bracelet by dividing the total number of floss or strands into three equal parts. If you use twelve strings, put four strands together as one section, for a total of three equal parts.

  4. Step 4

Take the section held in the right hand across the strand in the center. Next move the section in the left hand across the strand in the center. Continue working a rotating pattern that alternates left and right across the center to form a braid.

  5. Step 5

Measure the braided or knotted portion against your wrist to make sure it's long enough. Braid more or pull it apart to add or subtract length. Finish the bracelet by combining the strings together as one and knot the end.

  6. Step 6

Give the friendship bracelet to your friend. Tie it on your friend's wrist and then trim the trailing strings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many patterns are available online or in craft books. You can also choose your own colors and design from your imagination.
  • If you choose to simply braid the strings together, you can finish a bracelet in just a few minutes. More complicated knotted bracelets using left and right-hand knots can take thirty minutes or longer to complete.
