If you have nice rims on your car, then you definitely want to take care of them so you can show them off. Car rims have a tendency to attract a large amount of dirt and debris. Spend some time on them when detailing your car.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Clean the tires first. When you clean your tires, a lot of the dirt falls onto the rims, therefore you want to clean the rims last.

  2. Step 2

Spray the rims with a degreaser. This should loosen the buildup that accumulates around the nuts and bolts of the rims. Pay extra attention to areas where you see a lot of dirt and grease.

  3. Step 3

Wipe away the degreaser. If you leave the degreaser on the rims too long, it can cause damage, including discoloration.

  4. Step 4

Shower the rims with water from your garden hose. You can wash away any of the debris left behind after using the degreaser.

  5. Step 5

Dry the rims with a clean cloth. At this point, they should be free of any buildup.

  6. Step 6

Shine the rims with a rim cleaner. You can use a product like Armor All Wheel Cleaner to protect rims and also give them a nice shine.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to read the directions on all products that you use on the rims. Not all products are appropriate for all rim types.
  • If you buy an auto detailing kit, it should come with the products you need to care for the car rims.
