Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a synthetic microfiber towel or chamois to dry your car. Synthetic towels absorb water well and are gentle to the finish. The towels are also cost effective as they last a long time with proper care.

  2. Step 2

Dry the car in the shade when possible. If you must dry the car in the sun, dry the side that is in direct sunlight first. Dry the remainder of the car quickly to avoid sunspots.

  3. Step 3

Use a squeegee to remove most of the water quickly. Choose a squeegee made of soft plastic to avoid damage to the paint. Use a chamois or microfiber towel after you squeegee in order to thoroughly dry the car.

  4. Step 4

Change towels as you dry your car. The longer the towel is used, the more dirt deposits are left that can scratch the paint. Use a special towel intended to dry wheels, and don't use the wheel towel on painted areas of your car.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dry mirrors and windows first to avoid streaking.
  • If you use a cotton towel to dry the vehicle, ensure the towel is 100 percent cotton. Cotton blend towels can scratch the vehicle's paint.
  • Never use old bath towels to dry your vehicle when detailing. Cotton blend towels contain polyester, which is abrasive to paint.
