Keeping African American hair sleek is simple with the use of a wet wrap. In wrapping, the hair is smoothed around the head, and is a convenient way of preventing tangles. Once dry the hair can be unwrapped and worn straight down or curled into various styles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Moisturizing or protein enriched shampoo
  • Moisturizing or protein enriched conditioner
  • Towel
  • Foam based or liquid setting lotion
  • Comb
  • Brush (optional)
  • Hair clips or wrap strips (optional)
  • Hood dryer
  • Oil sheen
  1. Step 1

Wash and condition the hair. Use a moisturizing or protein based shampoo and conditioner to keep hair soft and manageable. Wrap with a towel for several minutes to remove most of the water.

  2. Step 2

Apply a foam based or liquid setting lotion and spread over the entire head of hair using enough to make the hair manageable. Gently comb the product through, working from the ends of the hair up to the roots to remove any tangles and bumps.

  3. Step 3

Part the hair across from one ear to the other. Comb the parted hair forward and begin smoothing the hair clockwise in a circular motion blending around the head and keeping the forehead free.

  4. Step 4

Comb the back section of the hair clockwise smoothing towards the front. Keep the wet wrap smooth and gather loose ends using your comb or a hairbrush.

  5. Step 5

Secure the wet wrap using hair clips or wrap strips.

  6. Step 6

Sit under a hood dryer for 30 minutes to an hour until hair is completely dry.

  7. Step 7

Spray oil sheen for added gloss and smoothness before unwrapping hair.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hair can be allowed to dry overnight. If allowing to air dry, wrap with a silk scarf overnight before going to bed.
